‘Domaine de Cristia has come on like gangbusters over the last decade’ – Robert Parker

Was founded by Etienne Grangeon 70 years ago, the property originally comprised 2 hectares of Grenache. The driving force of his son Alain, who joined the domaine in 1963 has propelled the fortunes of the Cristia and expanded into other appellations such as Rasteau and Cairanne. Rich rough hewn wines with plenty of fruit tannin but not massive oak influence. The Ultimo Wine Centre highly recommends Domaine de La Cristia as the perfect mid term proposition in the cellar at a very competitive price.

‘Domaine de Cristia has come on like gangbusters over the last decade, since proprietors Baptiste Grangeon took over from his father in 1999. All of Cristia’s vineyards are in the northeast sector of the appellation, with their sensational 100% Grenache Vieilles Vignes cuvee coming from 70- to 80-year-old vines in sandy soil not far from the Rayas vineyard.’ – Robert Parker – Wine Advocate

The basic cuvée is made from about 9 ha. The blend is 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah. The average age of the vines is 50 years. Grenache is matured in cement tanks and Syrah in 2-3 years old barriques.

Stock on Hand: 20

Tasting Note:

Ripe and seamless, with a gorgeous mouthfeel to the raspberry, mulled spice, crushed currant and melted liquorice notes. Long and fleshy, with a buried minerality extending the finish. Grenache and Syrah. Drink now through 2025. (Wine Spectator –91 points)

The dense ruby/purple 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape (90% Grenache and 10% Syrah) is very sexy and rich, with a beautiful nose of blueberry, blackberry, charcoal, and tapenade. Fabulously concentrated, with silky tannins and a layered, rich mouthfeel, this stunning effort is already irresistible, and should drink well for a decade or more. (Robert Parker – Wine Advocate June 2000 #185 –90 points)
